  1. Ooooh, I love the subtle palette in this one. The grays, the steel blues, the greens, the burnt umbers. Nice!!! And the reflections, too.

  2. The colors and textures in this photo are just amazing. Shiny, grainy, smooth, mottled…wow.

  3. Upper Shores by Miriam Tell

Breaking swells upon the rocks, subject to the lusting of the north wind
Plate of glass, motionless, reflects the opposition you possess
You’re changing garments on your upper shores
You move like one, you roll like thunder
You’re soul lies deep, deep down under
That shiny edge where lilies bloom, mahnomen reaches for the sun
Rushes bend like maiden hair, pulled and groomed by brushes in the air
And what a stunning style it is you wear
They move like one, they bend way over
The roots go deep, deep down under

Out in the depths, dark cold secrets left untold
Caverns yield far below, The waters we behold

An icy mask now subdues, daylight disappears in pinks and blues
To heave and crack your frozen back
Rumbling and groaning through the night, Forging a mighty coat of iron
You’re fused like one, you roar like thunder
Your soul lies waiting, lurking just under

  4. I just now came back to this after telling my friend Jackie about the photo and the poem on Thanksgiving. I am going to send it to her. And now I am sniffling all over again. It was a wonderful night when Miriam wrote this poem, for this amazing photo…
